Structural Wood Product and Wood Engineering Specialist
Dr. Janowiak holds a BS and MS. in Wood Science from the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. in Material Science and Engineering from Washington State University. Dr. Janowiak recently retired from Penn State University after nearly a 30-year career as an Associate Professor and Professor of Wood Products Engineering. He currently serves as an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering.
During his tenure in academia, Dr. Janowiak taught several courses in the wood product engineering field. He is widely renowned as an expert in the research and engineering of structural wood products. He has led extensive research in the testing and analysis of glued-laminated structural components.
Most recently, his work has focused on the novel development of a wood sanitization process that influences global standards development. Dr. Janowiak has multiple patents and has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals. In 2007, he won the prestigious L.J. Markwardt Wood Engineering Research Award for the best peer-reviewed article in the world of wood engineering. In addition, he has worked with many different companies worldwide as a consultant and research partner in many sectors of the wood products industry.
Dr. Janowiak holds professional memberships in the American Society for Testing and Materials, Forest Products Society, and Wood Science and Technology Society. John joined BCS in 2019.
